Cleaning Jobs at Canada’s Biggest Employers
Eight organisations behind a large share of Canada’s cleaning and housekeeping work, in the three groups that matter to an applicant abroad: care homes, resort hotels and national facility-services companies. Each card says what the employer does and links straight to its own careers page.
The two-minute check before you apply
- Find the job on the employer’s careers page and note the city.
- Look up the same employer on Job Bank using the temporary foreign worker filter.
- Open the posting and read Who can apply. You need the words “other candidates, with or without a valid Canadian work permit”.
- Check the city against the refusal list — unless the employer is a care home, hospital or other exempt sector.
- Never pay anyone for the job. Employers in the program may not charge recruitment fees.
Long-term care and retirement residences
Care homes are exempt from the rule that stops low-wage LMIAs in 26 cities, and may fill up to 20% of a worksite with low-wage foreign workers instead of 10%. That makes them the most promising employers on this page for an applicant abroad.
Long-term care
Extendicare
May accept visa sponsorship- Size: 97 long-term care homes and more than 32,500 team members
- Provinces: Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario
- Cleaning roles: housekeeping aides, part of environmental services
Extendicare tells applicants that interview invitations only come from its own company email domains. An offer from any other address is not from Extendicare.

Chartwell Retirement Residences

Sienna Senior Living
May accept visa sponsorship- Where it hires: residences in Ontario and British Columbia
- Cleaning roles: housekeeping aides
- How to apply: through its official careers portal
The portal leads with care and kitchen roles. Use its link to more opportunities to reach housekeeping postings.
Open the careers pageResort hotels outside the big cities
Mountain and coastal resort towns are not census metropolitan areas, so the refusal rule does not reach them. Half of the eight open cleaning postings we checked were hotel housekeeping jobs.
Luxury hotels and resorts
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts (Accor)
May accept visa sponsorship- How it hires: through Accor’s global careers site
- Search: filter by Canada and by the Fairmont brand
- Cleaning roles: housekeeping, under the Rooms category
Accor’s location filter lists Banff next to Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Montréal. Those four cities are on the refusal list; start with the mountain properties.

- Cleaning roles: housekeeping, listed under lodging
- Contracts: full-time, part-time and seasonal

Seasonal jobs are common in the Rockies. Ask how many months a role runs, because a short contract means a short work permit.
Open the careers pageNational facility-services companies
These companies hold the cleaning contracts for offices, universities, hospitals and remote work camps. They are not an exempt sector, so the 26-city rule applies to them: their realistic openings for applicants abroad are at sites outside those areas.
Janitorial and technical services
GDI Integrated Facility Services

- Cleaning roles: janitorial staff, room attendants, housekeeping attendants
- How to apply: cleaning service job board, or a general application

Open the careers pageWhy none of these employers promises sponsorship
Large employers hire thousands of cleaners a year, and almost all of them are already in Canada. An LMIA is filed for one position at one worksite, after the employer has advertised it for at least eight consecutive weeks and failed to fill it locally. That happens at particular sites — a remote camp, a resort in a small town, a care home that cannot staff its night shift — not across a whole company.
So the useful question is never “does this company sponsor?” but “is this site, in this town, advertising this job to people abroad?” The careers pages above tell you where the sites are. Job Bank tells you whether a specific job is open to you.

Frequently asked questions
Which Canadian companies hire cleaners from abroad?
No large Canadian employer sponsors cleaners as a blanket policy. The best odds are with care homes and hospitals, which are exempt from the refusal rule, resort hotels in small towns, and facility-services companies at remote or small-town sites.
Do care homes in Canada hire housekeeping aides from abroad?
Some do. Nursing and residential care facilities are exempt from the rule that stops low-wage LMIAs in high-unemployment cities, and can fill up to 20% of a worksite with low-wage foreign workers. Each job still has to be advertised and approved on its own.
Is it better to apply on the company website or on Job Bank?
Use both. The company site tells you where the jobs are. Job Bank tells you whether a specific posting accepts candidates without a Canadian work permit, which the company site usually does not say.
Why does every employer here say may accept visa sponsorship?
Because sponsorship is decided job by job, not company by company. The label is honest about that; the check at the top of the page shows you how to confirm a specific posting.
Are hotel housekeeping jobs in Whistler or Banff open to foreign workers?
Several were when we checked. Resort towns are outside the census metropolitan areas on the refusal list, and on 13 September 2026 Four Seasons Resort Whistler and Pan Pacific Whistler both had room attendant postings that accepted applicants abroad.
How can I tell a real offer from a fake one?
A real offer names the employer, the worksite and the wage, matches a posting you can find yourself, and never asks you for money. Care-home operator Extendicare, for example, only sends interview invitations from its own company email domains.
