Highest-Paying Cleaning Jobs in Canada
The best-paid cleaning job in Canada is not a cleaning job at all in the narrow sense: it is supervising cleaners, which Job Bank puts at up to $41.00 an hour nationally. Below it, janitors and heavy-duty cleaners out-earn office and hotel cleaners in every province. Here is the ladder, and where each step pays most.

The four cleaning jobs, ranked by pay
| Job and NOC code | Hourly range, Canada | Median | TEER |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cleaning supervisor (62024) | $17.50 – $41.00 | $25.00 | 2 |

| Light duty cleaner (65310) | $15.50 – $25.00 | $19.74 | 5 |
| Specialized cleaner (65311) | $15.50 – $27.00 | $19.23 | 5 |
Low and high hourly wages in Canadian dollars. Job Bank wage reports for 62024, 65312, 65310 and 65311, updated 19 November 2025.
The ranking by median is clear: supervisors at $25.00, then janitors and heavy-duty cleaners at $21.27, then light duty cleaners at $19.74. Specialized cleaners have the lowest median but a high end of $27.00, because the category mixes vehicle washers with restoration and high-access specialists.
Where each job pays most
Provincial medians hide big regional gaps. These are the highest figures in the Job Bank tables:

| Specialized cleaner | Yukon | $20.38 | $36.75 |

Two things are going on. The North and resource regions pay more because housing and living costs are higher and fewer people want to move there. And the provincial “high” for supervisors reflects large contracts — hospitals, universities, industrial sites — where a supervisor runs a big crew.
How to climb from cleaner to supervisor
- Start in the code that fits your experience, usually light duty (65310) or janitor (65312).
- Learn the machines — scrubbers, buffers, extractors. They are the difference between light duty and heavy-duty pay.
- Take on quality checks and training of new staff, and ask for it to be written into your duties.
- Apply internally for lead hand or supervisor roles once you have a year of reliable work.
- Keep every letter and pay stub. Immigration programs count documented hours in a specific code.
Job Bank listed a real example of the top of this ladder when we checked: a cleaner supervisor posting in Richmond, British Columbia at $39.00 an hour. It was not open to applicants abroad, which is typical — supervisors are usually promoted from within. That is exactly why arriving as a cleaner and moving up is the realistic route.
Overtime and shift work
Hourly rates are only part of pay. Overtime rules are provincial: in British Columbia overtime starts after 8 hours in a day or 40 in a week, in Alberta after 8 hours a day or 44 a week, and in Ontario after 44 hours a week. Hotels and remote sites that run long seasonal shifts can add meaningfully to a year’s earnings.
The postings open to applicants abroad that we found paid between $19.50 and $28.40 an hour. The best of them, room attendant at Four Seasons Resort Whistler, topped out at $28.40 — above the $26.00 British Columbia high for light duty cleaners.
